Kiwanis Fundraisers for Kids

Kiwanis of California met Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The meeting was called to order and Pastor Dan Rowlison opened with prayer. Deanna Benne was received into membership at this meeting. A meal was served.

Bill Pace gave an update for the 3 Person Scramble Golf event to be held at the California Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 26. All proceeds for this best ball, 18 hole, hamburger-hot supplied event will go for kids here in California and round the world. In raising money for children of the community Kiwanis discussed details of its Ham and Turkey meal held up by the Courthouse from 7 to 10 a.m. on Sept. 20. Eggs, ham, gravy and biscuits are the centerpiece of this annual meal. Discussion took place to make this meal family friendly, especially for families with kids. Kids under six- no cost; 6-12 age children only $5; tickets purchased in advance sell for $8 and at the line $9. Tickets can be purchased at Blankenship Insurance 573-796-2360. Citizens 100 or older also free.

The Kiwanians celebrated the report of Jaden Barr's participation at Missouri Boys State learning many good things that prepare a person for good citizenship. On Veterans' Day Kiwanis will sponsor an essay by seventh and eighth graders the importance of volunteerism as a salutary ingredient for a society to stay strong, remain free, and evince praiseworthy characteristics. The meeting ended with good humor with Dr. Melvin Twaddle telling us why it would not be good to send a spaceship to the sun - event at nighttime.
