Russellville Baseball

The Russellville High School varsity baseball team participated in the New Bloomfield Fall Classic Saturday, where the Indians lost 9-5 to Eugene in first-round action, then defeated St. Elizabeth 15-5 in six innings.

"The win against St. Elizabeth was a good bounce back win as the kids really swung the bats well getting 15 hits including six extra base hits," Russellville Coach Lucas Branson said. "We came out and put some pressure on St. Elizabeth to score four runs in the top of the first inning, which is something we have struggled with at times (scoring early) so that was really nice to see."

Isaac Kirchner recorded the win with two strikeouts.

Ryland Johnson led Russellville hits with four singles and three RBI. Zach Voss had a triple, a double, a single and two RBI, and Cole Dawson had a double and two RBI. Caleb Harrison had two singles and two RBI, and Kuda had two singles and one RBI.

Russellville hits in the previous game against Eugene included the following: Harrison had a two-run homer, a double, and four RBI.

"Caleb's home run in the sixth inning cut Eugene's lead to just one point," Branson said.

Kirchner contributed two singles and one RBI, and Kuda added two singles.

"We made a couple of early mistakes that put us in a hole we couldn't quite get out of," Branson said. "But our kids kept chipping away and had a chance late in the game. We just have to learn from it and try to continue to improve, which we have been doing a good job of all fall."

Russellville hosted Tuscumbia Thursday night, where the Indians captured a 6-5 win.

Johnson recorded the win with three strikeouts in relief.

Zach Voss led Russellville hits with a two-run homer.

"Zach's home run gave us a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning," Branson said.
