Lady Pintos capture wins at Eugene

The California High School volleyball teams traveled to Eugene Thursday night, where the varsity and both JV teams defeated the Lady Eagles.

California's varsity won 25-15 and 25-16.

"Thanks to the serving of Cameron Meyer and Adrienne Strickfaden, we we're able to prevent Eugene from starting an effective offense," California Coach Julie Bailey said. "Cameron and Paige Halsey's hitting also helped us gain an advantage over Eugene to come away with the win."

Halsey had 14 kills and one block, and Meyer had five kills, five digs and two aces for California. Madilyn Safley had four digs, 11 assists, one kill and one ace, and Emma Bailey had 10 assists and one kill. Kayla Allison chipped in with eight digs, one kill and one ace, and Morgan Henley had five digs and one ace.

California's JVA defeated Eugene 23-25, 25-19 and 25-16, while the JVB Lady Pintos won 25-12 and 25-3.

Previously, California hosted the 2014 Tri-County Conference JV Tournament Sept. 13, where Blair Oaks, after defeating California's JVA in semifinals, went on to defeat Ashland for the championship.

The Lady Pintos traveled to Sedalia Monday night, where California's JVA defeated Sacred Heart 25-16 and 25-11.

California's varsity won the first set 25-21, but lost the next two sets 12-25 and 23-25 to lose the match to Sacred Heart.

"We didn't work together as a team like we should," Bailey said. "Both Paige and Adrienne were strong at the net, but defensively we let too many balls drop. Kayla Allison worked hard on the back row, but needed help."

Strickfaden had 10 kills, four digs and three blocks for California. Halsey had nine kills, two digs and two blocks. Meyer had six digs, three kills and four aces, and Safley had 11 assists, seven digs and one ace. Emma Bailey had 11 assists and eight digs, and Allison had eight digs and two aces.

California's varsity will participate in the Warrensburg Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
