A "Salute to Police" event was held at the Moniteau County Courthouse at noon Wednesday, March 25.

The event was sponsored by three local organizations - California Kiwanis Club, California Lions Club and California Ministerial Alliance.

A brief ceremony on the south side of the courthouse was attended by about 20 officers of the City of California, Moniteau County Sheriff's Department, Missouri Highway Patrol and others. There were about 50 non-law enforcement citizens present for the event.

Dr. Peter Kurowski, California Kiwanis past-president, spoke briefly about the importance of police and law enforcement to society, saying, "without the rule of law, we have nothing at all." Dan Rowlinson, pastor of First Christian Church, gave a prayer, and Eddie Schoeneberg, pastor of Main Street Baptist Church, presented a message, based on Romans 13. He spoke of there being not authority except from God, and how the citizens should honor and respect authority.

A "thank you" meal for the law enforcement officers was served at High Street Grill, across the street from the courthouse.
