Eagles, Indians get first win of season

JAMESTOWN - Evan Knierim batted 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead Jamestown over New Bloomfield 7-4. Alex Gerlach and Garrett Wolfe also had two runs scored, with Gerlach hitting 1-for-2 from the plate and Wolfe 2-for-4.

Colton DeVore, Christian DeVore and Cole Theissen had an RBI as well.

Gerlach started on the mound for the Eagles, pitching three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out four. Colton DeVore pitched the next two innings, striking out two and giving up one earned run.

The Wildcats made it a game in the seventh inning, scoring three runs, but it proved to not be enough.

The Eagles travel to Higbee on Thursday at 5 p.m. before hosting a doubleheader on Saturday with Northwest Hugesville and Tuscumbia. Those games start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

RUSSELLVILLE - The Indians scored three in the second inning, one in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to defeat Versailles 11-1 in a 10-run rule shorten game Monday night.

Ryland Johnson totaled five RBI on three hits to help lead Russellville to its first win of the season.

The Indians return to the diamond Thursday at 5 p.m. when they host Osage, then they'll travel to Eldon on Saturday at 11 a.m and Linn Monday, April 13 at 5 p.m.
