Moniteau County voter turnout low Tuesday

Voter turnout for the municipal election in Moniteau County Tuesday, April 7, was low, less than 19 percent, with 1,577 of the 8,322 voters people showing up at the voting booths. Unofficial results on several races follow.

A five-way race for California's Moniteau R-I school board resulted in incumbents Jay VanDieren and Paul Bloch returning to the board for another term.

The City of California Use Tax proposal passed, with 221 yes votes to 178 no. This was the third time it was put before the voters.

The California Board of Aldermen had one contested race. In Ward I, Ron Baker, who ran unopposed, will serve his first term. Another new face on the board will be Darryl Elliott, who defeated incumbent Charles E. Roll 101-77 to represent Ward II. Incumbent Carol Rackers ran unopposed and will return for another term to represent Ward III.

The Jamestown C-I School Proposition passed by a vote of 240 yes, about 55 percent, to 199 no, 45 percent. This is the second try for the school upgrade and improvement proposal.

The Tipton R-VI proposition K.I.D.S. for school upgrades and improvements was approved by the voters by a strong percentage - 77 percent percent yes. In Moniteau County, the votes were 222 yes and 65 no. Morgan County voters approved the project by 45 to 17 and the Cooper County voters approved 8-0.
