Prairie Home hosts community Easter Egg Hunt

Nearly 50 children and adults turned out for the Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt that was held at the Prairie Home United Methodist Church on Saturday. The Easter Bunny, assisted by the PHUMC youth, hid the eggs for the different age groups of children. After all of the eggs had been found, everybody gathered in the fellowship hall for refreshments.

The First Baptist Church hosted the annual Community Sunrise Service. Rev. Myron Crouch was the host pastor and conducted the service. Dana Newell was the worship pianist and Tracy Jones sang special music. The offering, collected by ushers Truman Wallenmeyer and Colton Searles, will go to the Ministerial Alliance which assists with community needs. Pastor Steve Jones, delivered the message. Following the service, the congregation was invited to breakfast. Those serving the breakfast included Jenny Alpers, Kathy Alpers, Frances Backus and Nancy Gipson.

Nancy Kixmiller and Ben spent Easter Sunday at the home of Brian and Chris Auckland, Bridgie and Thomas in Kansas City. Other guests included Rick and Ann Lyons, Prairie Village, Kan.; Terry and Kim Terrill, Sam and Georgia, John and Carrie Rouchka, Lucy and Charles, Kansas City; Dr. Ed Clark, Wayne and Lee Ann Clark, Bolivar.

Easter weekend guests of Jim and Jeanie Lachner were Mr. and Mrs. Jerad Lachner and family, Springfield.

Esther Odneal hosted her family's Easter dinner Sunday. Guests included Kathy Maxey and Leah, Ashley Lenger, Columbia, Cindy Lenger, Amy and Kevin Small, Austin and Ryan.

The Summer Ball Association will hold its Annual Pancake Breakfast Saturday, April 18, from 8 - 11 a.m., in the school cafeteria. A free will donation will purchase breakfast and players will deliver in town (just call 573-230-8584). The bake sale will have cookies, brownies, cakes and pies available for purchase. Come and support summer ball.

Cheryl van Kirk, business and technology teacher, has started a Donors Choose campaign to raise money for equipment for a new multimedia class and smaller keyboards for elementary students. Sixteen science students competed against local high school students at the UCM Science Fair this past Friday. All students placed, and seven went on to a second round of judging in a "best overall" category.

Awards included: first place certificates - Madison Young (Health/Medicine), Sage Eichenburch (Physics/Engineering), Rayce Kendrick (Behavior Science), Makayla Zey (Behavior Science), Halei Kellum (Behavior Science), Enoch Turner (Chemistry), and Elizabeth Fairchild (Health/Medicine); second place certificates - Rachel Distler (Health/Medicine), Ceirra Bushner (Chemistry), and Tyler Carmichael (Physics); third place certificates - Austin Hatfield (Physics), Ben Stock (Behavior Science), Josie Flood (Behavior Science), Austin Small (Health/Medicine), Shianne Rhorer (Chemistry), and Kristen Peterson (Behavior Science).

The students who received first place certificates moved on to a second round of judging where Halei Kellum, Elizabeth Fairchild, Madison Young, Sage Eichenburch received first place medals; Makayla Zey and Enoch Turner received third place medals. Congratulations to these students and to their teacher, Marie Pope.
