Eagles shutout

PILOT GROVE - The Eagles fell to Pilot Grove last Monday 5-0 for their first lost of the season. Garrett Wolfe started on the mound for Jamestown, pitching four scoreless innings and he didn't allow a hit while striking out four and walking two.

Pilot Grove's Jacob Twenter homered in the sixth and the Tigers scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away from Jamestown.

Jamestown's Austin Flippin was 1-for-2 from the plate with a walk.

Eagles offense flex muscle

JAMESTOWN - The Eagles' bats showed up last Tuesday, defeating Bunceton 19-0 in five innings. Jamestown (2-1) scored seven runs in the first inning, three in the third and a whooping nine runs in the fourth.

"We played really well tonight," Jamestown coach Jordan Hoecker said. "I think the main thing to take away from the game is how well our guys can play when they are mentally prepared and compete throughout the whole game. That mentality is something we will have to continue building on through the rest of the season."

Colton DeVore pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and striking out seven.

Cole Theissen hit a grand slam in the first inning, his first career home run, and walked three times. Garrett Jones batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and he scored three times, Evan Knierim was 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBI and Garrett Wolfe was 2-for-4 with three RBI, a walk and two runs scored.

Jamestown's junior varsity also beat Bunceton 2-0.

Jamestown wins a pair on Saturday

JAMESTOWN - Garret Wolfe stuck out 15 batters as the Eagles escape with a 3-0 win over NW Hughesville Saturday. Wolfe pitched seven innings, allowed just two hits and walked one.

Alex Gerlach homered to the fourth inning to get Jamestown on the board first. Then, Evan Knierim singled to center in the sixth to score Austin Flippin and Wolfe for the 3-0 lead.

Flippin led the offense, batting 2-for-3 from the plate with two singles.

In the second game, Jamestown scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to run away from Tuscumbia in its 9-4 win.

Flippin was 2-for-4 from the plate and Wolfe had four RBI, batting 2-for-4. Garrett Jones was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.

Gerlach's double to right field tied the game at 2 in the third inning and Wolfe's home run in the fifth gave them the 5-3 lead. Wolfe drove in another run in the sixth, scoring Flippin.

Christian DeVore walked with the bases loaded to bring the score to 7-3 and Jones singled to right to score Wolfe and DeVore to extend the lead to 9-3.

Gerlach pitched a complete, striking out 10 while giving up four runs, one earned, on five hits.

The Eagles are now 4-1 on the season.

The Eagles travel to Sweet Springs today at 5 p.m., then host Versailles in a doubleheader on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Eagles will also travel to Bakersfield Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. before playing a home game with Higbee on Tuesday, April 21, at 5 p.m.
