Moniteau County voter turnout low Tuesday

Voter turnout for the municipal election in Moniteau County Tuesday, April 7, was low, less than 19 percent, with 1,577 of the 8,322 voters people showing up at the voting booths. Unofficial results on several races follow.

A five-way race for California's Moniteau R-I school board resulted in incumbents Jay VanDieren and Paul Bloch returning to the board for an additional three-year term. They were the victorious candidates in a field of five which included Kristie Glenn, Mike Staton and Paula Wolken.

The City of California Use Tax proposal passed, with 221 yes votes to 178 no. This was the third time it was put before the voters.

The California Board of Aldermen had one contested race. In Ward I, Ron Baker, who ran unopposed, will serve his first term. Another new face on the board will be Darryl Elliott, who defeated incumbent Charles E. Roll 101-77 to represent Ward II. Incumbent Carol Rackers ran unopposed and will return for another term to represent Ward III.

The Jamestown C-I School Proposition passed by about 55 percent. This is the second try for the school upgrade and improvement proposal.

The Tipton R-VI proposition K.I.D.S. for school upgrades and improvements was approved by the voters by a strong percentage - 77 percent percent yes. The total votes in the three counties were 275 yes and 82 no.

The Tipton School Board will see one new member, Sherla Hagerman, and a returning incumbent, Mark (Joe) Huhman, who both outpolled Chris Allee, although the votes were close.

The Prairie Home R-V Proposition K.I.D.S. passed with 81 percent yes, 19 percent no.

Prairie Home School Board will seat Gary Burch and Rachel Lock. Lock won on a write-in vote as Burch was the only one signed up for the official ballot.

High Point R-III School District will see the return of two incumbents - Rick Percival and Jennifer Dampf, who came out ahead of Terry D. Blankenship.

The city mayors up for election ran unopposed. California Mayor Norris Gerhart will serve another two-year term.Tipton Mayor Jennifer Cary will serve another term. Jamestown Mayor Jon Imhoff will serve. In the City of Clarksburg, David Battles, will serve as mayor. In Lupus, Dyno Don Penny, was elected mayor.

Unopposed alderman were: Jamestown Alderman East - Shane Turner, and Alderman West - Denise Colvin; Clarksburg Alderman North - Ronnie W. Reed, and Alderman South - Henry (Bud) Hodges; Tipton Alderman East - Don Basinger, and Alderman West - Kelley Gerling.

Other Lupus results are as follows: City Clerk - Jim Denny; City Constable - Charla Jay; Street Commissioner - Sue Denny; and Board member - Chrissy Fischer.
