Tipton school holds monthly meeting

Tipton R-VI Superintendent Scott Jarvis spoke of being pleased with the passage of the $1.8 million school bond issue at the Monday, April 13, meeting in the board room. He thanked the bond advisory committee members and the board members for all of their help and the voters for giving the bond issue a 77 percent yes vote. The funds are for school improvements and repairs. A special meeting is planned for April 27 to make decisions related to "Proposition K.I.D.S." Larry Hart plans to be at the meeting.

Jarvis thanked the outgoing school board member, President Greg Miller, for his years of service. The election results were certified by the board. Sherla C. Hagerman received a total of 221 votes; Mark (Joe) Huhmann, 207; and Chris Allee, 193. Hagerman and Huhmann were sworn in and Board Secretary Lori Combs administered the oath of office.

New officers elected are: President - Nancy Bookout, Vice President - Joe Huhmann, Secretary - Lori Combs, and Treasurer - Lisa Bixler.

The board took up unfinished business. The roofing bid of G&R Construction was accepted by the board as was the gym floor bid of Acme Flooring Company, Inc.

Under new business, the board approved a new three-year service agreement with Midwest Computech, with changes as explained by Jarvis.

The high school band and chamber choir were recognized for receiving a I rating at the district competition. Also introduced were the two students advancing to state - vocal soloist Makayla Morris who performed two selections for the board - and tuba soloist Justin Miller, who performed his solo for the board.

Jarvis informed the board of the completion of the e-Rate application and said the district should receive about $79,000. The board had three bids for phone service. Co-Mo Connect was selected as the phone service provider with plans for the new service to start on July 1. Co-Mo also had the lowest internet pricing and that service will also begin July 1.

Elementary Principal Kelly Kohler reported current enrollment for K-6 at 281. March attendance was 96.85 percent. Junior High / High School Principal Ellen Allee reported seventh and eighth grade enrollment at 89. High school enrollment was reported at 223.
