Fifth and sixth grade students and teachers in Moniteau County attended the Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District and Progressive Agriculture Annual Student Conservation Safety Day. On Tuesday, April 21, 179 students and teachers from California R-I, Clarksburg C-2, Jamestown C-I and Tipton R-VI attended the event at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds in California.

There were many sponsors of the event which included 10 sessions of safety-related Conservation training. Coordinated by the Moniteau County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), volunteers included those from SWCD, Missouri Department of Conservation, Natural Resources Conservation Service, California Police Department, University Extension, and volunteers of City of California Fire Department, AA Propane, MoDOT Railroad and MFA Tipton.

The event is designed for the attending youth to learn more about the safety in the environment and conservation of natural resources than they would be expected to learn in school. This is the 11th year for the event to be held in the county.

Safety issues encountered by many in more rural areas and activities were included in the training sessions. Those areas include wildlife, propane, fire, streams and fishing, forestry, farm safety, fire, auto, railroad safety and hunter safety.
