Investigation continues after suspect elude manhunt

Following a day-long manhunt in the Tipton area, the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department announced that the subjects of the search are believed to have left the area.

Events are reported to have began shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, near Clarksburg, with pursuit of a vehicle which failed to stop for the deputy. The chase continued on foot after the suspect vehicle turned south on Bahner Quarry Road at the east edge of Tipton, and drove into a field near Elmers Road. The two suspects fled the vehicle and went into the woods.

The search was joined by the Tipton Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the pair.

Later in the day, it was reported that the two suspects were seen in the area of Elmers Road and Highway 5. Authorities again responded to the location, and continued the search with the help of a helicopter and Morgan County Sheriff's Canine Unit. The search was unsuccessful.

According to the Sheriff's Department, both suspects have been identified, but no names or descriptions have been released. Law Enforcement authorities believe the suspects were most likely picked up by another vehicle and are no longer in the area.

The vehicle used by the suspects has been impounded. Charges will be sought against the suspects. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
