At California Middle School, the top five students from each grade level competed in a building-wide spell off Friday, Feb. 6. The top three winners were determined in this event held in the middle school gym before all middle school students. Serving as moderator was volunteer parent Tom Robbins.

The top five of each grade level were determined in class level spelling bees held earlier.

The winners are: first place - Taylor Barnes; second place - Lily Ogg and third place - Lauren Belle Geiser. Barnes winning word was "hydroponic."

Ogg, the second place winner, will represent the school at the regional competition in Columbia later this year. Barnes represented the school at the regional event last year.
