California Rural Fire has annual dinner

The California Rural Fire Protection District annual dinner was held Saturday, Feb. 7, with about two dozen firefighters, board members and guests present at Rural Fire Station No. 1 for the dinner and meeting.

The meal began at 6:30 p.m. with the awards presented afterwards. Andrea Hughes was presented with a 10-year award; Terry Bleich, a 25-year award; Dave Strobel, a 30-year award; and Steve Walters, a 35-year award. Shawn Inglish was not present to receive her 10-year award.

Fire Chief Steve Walters thanked everyone for their support and commented on how much the board of directors, and especially the spouses and families who support the firefighters who often "come home late at night smelling like smoke."

Board President David Strobel Thanked the board for taking care of the event for the firefighters and first responders.

The district has five fire houses and more than a dozen pieces of fire fighting equipment, including a Pierce pumper/tanker.
