Tipton squads compete at conference hoops tourneys

The Tipton boys and girls basketball teams both advanced to the championship finals at this week's Kaysinger Conference tournaments at State Fair Community College in Sedalia.

The boys team, which earned the No. 3 seed, opened with a 62-53 win over No. 6 Smithton in Saturday's opening round. The Cardinals then beat No. 2 Cole Camp, 44-37, in the semifinal round Tuesday night. Tipton faces top-seed Sacred Heart in Saturday's championship final at 1 p.m.

The Tipton girls, who are seeded No. 1, began with a 62-44 win over No. 8 Northwest in Saturday's opener. The Lady Cardinals held off No. 4 Cole Camp, 47-41, in Tuesday's semifinal round. Tipton faces No. 2 Windsor at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Cardinals are 22-0 overall and finished the conference regular season 9-0. They were ranked No. 4 in last week's Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 2 state poll.

Final results from the Kaysinger Conference tournaments will be published in the Democrat on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Tuscumbia 44, Russellville 41

Senior guard Coy Bond finished with 13 points for the Indians, who fell to Tuscumbia in Friday night's Homecoming game. Freshman guard Beau Bryant had 10 points for Russellville, which plays at Fatima this Friday.

Linn 57, Russellville 43

Senior guard Adrianna Basnett had 15 points for the Lady Indians, who lost at Linn on Monday night. Senior guard Justice Miller finished with 11 points, while sophomore forward McKendra Fischer scored 10.
