Snow to continue overnight in Central Missouri

Snow will persist overnight across much of the region and continue through Monday mid-afternoon.

The National Weather Service predicts snow may become heavy at times. The snow will slowly come to an end on late Monday morning into the afternoon from northwest to southeast.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected with snow accumulations ranging from less than an inch across far northern Missouri and west central Illinois to as much as 6 to 9 inches across portions of eastern and southeast Missouri and southwest and southern Illinois.

The NWS has issued the following statement for Central Missouri:

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST MONDAY...

  • TIMING... SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT...WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MONDAY AFTERNOON.
  • ACCUMULATIONS... 4 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOW.
  • WINDS...NORTHEAST 5 TO 10 MPH.
  • IMPACTS... SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE QUICKLY ON ROADS AND SEVERELY REDUCE THE VISIBILITY RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS THAT 6 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW IS EXPECTED. THE RAPID ACCUMULATION OF SNOW WILL MAKE TRAVEL EXTREMELY DIFFICULT...IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY... MAKE SURE TO EXERCISE CAUTION. BEGIN YOUR TRAVEL WITH A TANK FULL OF GAS... AND CARRY A WINTER STORM KIT WHICH INCLUDES A SHOVEL... FLASHLIGHT... CELLPHONE... AND BLANKETS OF EXTRA WARM CLOTHING.
