Snow blankets Central Missouri but amounts vary

Greater accumulation reported north and south of Jefferson City

Snow will persist across much of the region today through mid-afternoon.

The National Weather Service predicts the snow may become heavy at times. The snow will slowly come to an end late this morning into the afternoon from northwest to southeast.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected with snow accumulations ranging from less than an inch across far northern Missouri and west central Illinois to as much as six to ten inches across portions of eastern and southeast Missouri and southwest and southern Illinois.

Snowfall amounts so far varied widely. As of 7 a.m., five to ten inches of snow accumulation was reported in a band stretching from Columbia and Moberly to areas north of St. Louis. Lesser amounts of two to four inches of snow had accumulated in a band along and south of the Missouri River, stretching from Jefferson City to St. Louis. Farther south, four to six inches of snow had fallen along Interstate 44.
