There have been a couple of incidents of snowfall this winter before this weekend, but they barely qualified as flurries. The snow which began Sunday evening continued on through the night and amounted to about two inches on the ground by noon Monday. Another inch was expected before the storm ended Monday evening.

The actual snowfall didn't meet the predictions up to six inches in Moniteau County, with up to 10 inches just south of the county. The snow caused fewer problems than would ordinarily be expected, in part because there was less than predicted, but mostly since Monday was President's Day. Because of the holiday, the post office, state, county and city offices, schools, banks and some other businesses were already scheduled to be closed.

Because of the closings, the lighter than usual Monday traffic made it much easier for the state, county and city employees who did have to work, running the snow plows and other removal equipment, more space to work. The light powdery snow, which is not good for making snowmen, is also more difficult to shovel or plow, especially if the wind is blowing.

With a Tuesday high predicted at about 20, and Wednesday's high at about 14, with lows in the single digits both nights, the snow may be around for a few days.

According to WeatherStreet.com, the Friday temperatures may be above freezing, with the possibility of rain mixed with snow, then a temperature drop with more snow possible on Saturday and Sunday.
