His message was heard, loud and clear.
The Lady Indians, who fell behind 14-9, allowed a mere four points in the second and third quarters combined, building a decisive 41-18 lead. Vienna tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but Russellville held on to win, 48-32.
"At the end of the first quarter, we made some defensive adjustments and the kids responded," Volkart said. "Our pressure was giving them problems and we needed to continue it."
The Lady Indians turned a close game into a blowout in the third quarter, outscoring Vienna 20-2. Russellville started the period with a 15-0 run, nine of which were scored by senior guard Justice Miller. She had a 3-pointer, layup and four free throws during the spurt.
