Lady Pintos cruise past Warsaw, extend win streak to 4 games

The California girls basketball team began Tri-County Conference action Monday night with a dominating 92-24 victory over visiting Warsaw, extending the Lady Pintos' win streak to four consecutive games.

California was coming off a 54-40 victory over Mexico at the Gary Filbert Classic on Saturday night. The Lady Pintos, who began the season 2-4, improved to 6-4 after Monday night.

"We're starting to do good things," California head coach Bobby Sangster said. "We're finally seeing the results of our hard work. We're just trying to get better each day."

Against Warsaw, senior guard Kamryn Koetting finished with 24 points, while senior forward Kelsey Roush and sophomore guard Kayla Allison each scored 12. Freshman guard Elizabeth Lutz had 11 points and sophomore forward Cameron Meyer scored 10.

In the win over Mexico, junior guard Renee Roberts had 11 points and Allison finished with nine points.

The Lady Pintos travel to Southern Boone at 7 p.m. Friday for a conference matchup.

Jamestown 57, Community R-6 50

Junior Mickayla Strother finished with 26 points for the Lady Eagles, who defeated Community R-6 at Saturday's Gary Filbert Classic at Mexico. Junior Alli Muri had 11 points for Jamestown, while junior Mackenzie Strother scored 10. The Lady Eagles improved to 4-5 this season.

Eldon 69, Russellville 38

Senior guard Justice Miller had 14 points for the Lady Indians, who lost to Eldon on Friday. Senior guard Adrianna Basnett finished with 10 points for Russellville, while sophomore forward McKendra Fischer scored eight.

Prairie Home 63, Slater 31

Senior forward Kody Simmons finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers, who beat Slater at Saturday's Otterville Tournament. Sophomore guard Ross Kendrick had 14 points, while senior forward Sam Distler added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Middle school update

At Christmas break, the California seventh-grade girls basketball team had a 4-2 record, and it finished 2014 with a 31-11 win over St. Peter and Paul. For California, Paige Lamm and Hailey Cain each had eight points. California next plays at home against Versailles at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
