It was redemption, of sorts, for the Boonville Lady Pirates.

After suffering a lopsided loss in last year's championship final at the California Basketball Tournament, Boonville responded with a 45-32 victory over Battle in Saturday's title game.

"It means a lot," Lady Pirates head coach Jaryt Hunziker said. "Our girls wanted to be in the same position as last year and redeem themselves."

Boonville, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 4 Fulton in the semifinal round and coasted past No. 3 Battle. The Lady Pirates improved to 14-0 this season.

"This is such a competitive tournament," Hunziker said. "The girls did a really good job. They're focused and know what they want. These are nice milestones along the way."

Boonville senior Morgan Edwards had 17 points, while sophomore Paige Renfrow scored 10.
