Construction is underway on the new California High School baseball / softball field.

Construction has begun on the baseball/softball field approved by the California R-I School Board. The new facility will be one multi-use facility with a temporary fence for the softball field. It will be located midway between the agriculture building and the weight room on the high school campus with the outfield extending south.

Although the original approval was for a turf infield, a block backstop and netting system and block dugouts. With a seeded grass outfield planned, the field was expected to be ready for next year.

However, with the baseball and softball booster clubs interested in the field being ready for spring, efforts have started on fundraising to put in a sod outfield, irrigation system and other needs to be ready for players for this season. According to the Jan Trachsel, President of the Baseball Booster Club, the amount of money needed for the completion is unknown, but fundraising has started.

Currently, tickets are being sold at basketball games for a drawing with the winner taking home a Remington 870 autoloading 12 gauge shotgun or a gift certificate of equal value to be used at Bonecutter's Sporting Goods.

A barbecue is being planned in the immediate future, with additional fundraisers being considered.
