Lady Panthers win double-OT thriller at Jamestown, 66-59

With neither girls basketball team willing to budge, Friday's game between Cooper County Activities Association rivals Prairie Home and Jamestown went to double overtime.

Prairie Home sophomore forward Rachel Distler finished with 23 points, seven steals and six rebounds, helping the Lady Panthers to a thrilling 66-59 victory on Jamestown's homecoming night.

"Everyone did their part," said Lady Panthers head coach Linda Scott. "It was a super game all the way around. I'm so happy for our girls."

In regulation and the first overtime, neither team went ahead by more than six points. Prairie Home jumped to a 16-10 edge after the first quarter, but Jamestown rallied for a 24-21 halftime advantage. The Lady Eagles maintained a slim 37-36 lead to finish the third quarter, and the game went to overtime tied at 47-all.

Sophomore forward Shianne Rhorer had 20 points for Prairie Home, while junior center Makayla Zey added nine points and 17 rebounds. The Lady Panthers improved their overall record to 9-3 this season.

Jamestown 47, Prairie Home 46

Senior Trevor Barbour finished with 14 points, leading the host Eagles to an exciting Homecoming victory on Friday night. Senior Rayce Kendrick had 17 points for Prairie Home, which dropped to 6-6 overall this season.

The Panthers lost to Tuscumbia, 64-55, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Senior forward Sam Distler finished with 18 points, while Kendrick scored 13.

Hallsville 51, California 50 (OT)

Freshman guard Elizabeth Lutz finished with 17 points for the Lady Pintos, who dropped a tight game Monday night to Tri-County Conference opponent Hallsville. Senior guard Kamryn Koetting had nine points for California (7-7, 2-1 conference).

Tipton girls

The Lady Cardinals won a pair of games last week, improving to 16-0 overall and 5-0 in the Kaysinger Conference. Tipton beat LaMonte, 70-27, on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and escaped with a 57-50 victory over Windsor on Thursday.

Senior forward Ashton Pace surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this month at the New Franklin Tournament.

Tipton 81, LaMonte 31

Sophomore guard Jimmie Upton made 6-of-12 attempts from 3-point range, leading the Cardinals to a lopsided victory over LaMonte in a Kaysinger Conference matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Senior forward Aaron Rugen had 11 rebounds, while senior guard Logan Hirst added seven steals for Tipton, which improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Russellville 36, New Haven 34

Senior guard Coy Bond hit a game-winning jumper at the buzzer to lift the Indians past New Haven on Thursday at the South Callaway Tournament. Bond finished with nine points, while senior forward Levi Anderson scored 14.

Russellville lost its opening game at the tournament, falling to Hermann, 28-13, on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Russellville 43, New Haven 24

Senior guard Justice Miller had 15 points, leading the Lady Indians past New Haven on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the South Callaway Tournament. Senior guard Haley Windsor added 11 points, while sophomore forward McKendra Fischer scored 10. Russellville lost its consolation game to South Callaway, 44-28, on Friday. Miller finished with 14 points and Windsor added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Indians dropped a close game to St. Elizabeth, 52-51, on Monday night. Miller had 28 points and Windsor scored 11 for Russellville (3-12).
