With 395 tickets sold for the 17th Annual Cub Scout Chili Supper, many of the community came out to support Cub Scout Pack 120 on Saturday, Jan. 24 in its fundraiser. Those funds are an enormous help with the cost of activities and awards throughout the year.

Those who came out for the annual event had "delicious chili, tasty accompaniments and delectable homemade desserts." In addition, a 50/50 drawing brought in additional funds, with a lucky visitor from Versailles pocketing $52.50.

"Without the support of our community, it would be a lot harder to keep enrollment costs low," said Cubmaster Brad Friedmeyer." Scouting should be available to every boy who wants to join."

Cub Scouts themselves often focus on "fun" but leaders understand that this is a boy's code word for the satisfaction he gets from meeting challenges, having friends, feeling good about himself, and feeling he is important to other people. The Chili Supper provides many opportunities for the boys to gain this self-confidence as they have "fun" opening doors, greeting hungry customers, wiping down tables, serving drinks and desserts, refilling chili bowls table side, selling 50/50 tickets, and of course, helping with clean up!

Scouts were also encouraged to help by selling tickets prior to the event. The top-selling Scout was awarded with three free days at summer camp and a grand prize package from the Pack. Earning this honor after selling 138 tickets was Dillon Wood, Bear Scout! Cub Scouts who sold 12 or more tickets will receive a free Pinewood Derby Car which they will customize and use in the March 7 Pinewood Derby Race. Scouts awarded a car were: Tiger Scout Noah Boguski; Wolf Scouts Gabe Mills and Salvatore Vasquez; Bear Scouts Walker Friedmeyer, Kade Garrison, and Dillon Wood; Webelos 1 Scout Diego Vasquez; and Webelos 2 Scout Matthew Abernathy.
