Democrat Club plans Truman Day dinner

The Moniteau County Democrat Club met at the Nic Nac Café Thursday night for its monthly meeting with many in attendance.

Being the first of the year this meeting was the kickoff for the annual membership drive.

The Truman Day observance is still some months away but it was felt that it was not too early to determine a location, speaker, and set a date. It was decided that the Truman Day dinner would be held on May 1, and it has been confirmed that past Governor Roger Wilson will serve as the event speaker. The location will be the Centennial Hall. The program for the evening was presented by Taunia Adams giving an overview of the bills that have been filed in the General Assembly. It is still early but there have been a flood of bills covering a wide range of issues. Hearings on these bills will be scheduled in the weeks to come.

Much of what is seen is a repeat of last year's session. The attack on the poor and middle class will continue through the legislation or lack of it. Right to Work, Expansion of Medicaid, Ethics, and Voter ID are just a few important issues that need to be watched.

The club's next meeting will be on Feb. 26, and the speaker will be Jim White, 4th District candidate for Congress.
