With the fourth of July quickly approaching many people will hang a flag in remembrance of our country's birthday, However, Cheryl and Leroy Porter, who live just outside of High Point, have hung more than just a flag. They have an amazing patriotic porch. From the flowers, to the color scheme and lighting, the patriotism almost sings to you.

Cheryl warmly welcomes one and all to come and see her patriotic decorations. She enjoys sharing her stories and most of all sharing how very proud she is to be an American.

She began noticing she was drawn to patriotic items in her home decor and quickly began to gather items for her porch. She enjoys sitting on the porch in the evenings and watching her feathered friends visit their feeders. She commented it is rather interesting to see how many people slow down out on the road when they see the big American flag. "I hope it makes them think about how fortunate we are here in the United States."

Cheryl shared that her father inspired her as he made certain they had a flag at their home while she was growing up. He taught her the importance of placing lighting on the flag if it was left outside at night and to take it down during storms. Her father never served in the military, however, he impressed upon his family the importance of their freedom and the people who sacrifice so much for it. Her porch is a small way this summer she is honoring him since he recently passed away.

Cheryl enjoys taking photos, spending time with her nine grandchildren and assisting at Project Share where she feels she can help give back a little for all the blessings she has been given.

She believes patriotism begins at home and hopes in some small way people driving by will remember what freedoms we are so blessed to have.
