The pastures are green, which is not always the case in mid-July. Also, the ponds are full. It's a little unusual to have both of these. These facts bode well for the area cattlemen. Although the heat and humidity for last week or so has been uncomfortable enough to discourage the cattle from moving around much, the pasture quality means that the animals haven't really had to move much to find food.

When the animals don't have to move much to to get food and water, they don't walk off the weight. With good pastures and sufficient water, the cattle are looking good this year.
