The California volleyball team has been practicing this week at the high school in preparation for the Lake of the Ozarks team camp Thursday and Friday.
"We have 30 girls, so we're trying to figure out how to divide the girls and work together as a team," said head coach Julie Bailey. "Who's at the varsity level, who's at the junior varsity level and start getting an idea of that."
By no means does this mean Bailey is making any concrete decisions this week about her varsity and junior varsity teams for the season. She just has one focus.
"Definitely not making any decisions, but I'm just trying to get us ready for the team camp at the end of the week," she said.
Bailey liked what she saw from her team Monday, but there's still room for improvement. That's something she'll lean on her older girls to teach the younger players.
"I don't know some of the younger girls that well, but what I saw from the sophomores to the seniors, they're willing to work hard to get better," Bailey said. "They have a great attitude and they'll do anything you ask. That's always a positive."
But for now, they're just trying to work as a team.
"I'm trying to work on, instead of individual skills, more of team skills because we're going to that camp on Thursday and Friday," Bailey said. "I have to start figuring out where we're going to be at as a team."
The Lady Pintos start fall practice on Monday, Aug. 3, and the season-opener will be Thursday, Aug. 27, as California will host Boonville at 5:30 p.m.
