The 13th annual "Clyde Wood Memorial" race at Double-X Speedway saw more than 30 ASCS Warrior race teams check in for a chance at the $2,000 winners share Sunday night. With the likes of Josh Baughman, Jack Dover, Jonathan Cornell and Randy Martin in the field the competition was sure to be fierce.

Baughman and Cody Baker were set to bring the field to green for the 25-lap main event. Baughman, of Odessa, Texas, would take the initial lead and set a quick pace with Dover, Cornell, Martin and Baker dicing it out for the remainder of the top five.

Baughman was running the high line and danced just a little too close to the top in turn four and surrendered the lead to Dover. As Baughman tried to run down the leader he jumped the cushion in turn two and got into the wall on the back straightaway ending his bid for victory.

Dover would lead until lap 18 when Cornell used the low line to his advantage and took the top spot. Dover gave chase but ultimately suffered the same fate as Baughman, contacting the wall coming out of turn two and ending his run as well.

A lap-20 restart saw Cornell leading over 11th starting Tyler Thomas and Ricky Stangl. When racing went back to green, Stangl quickly dispatched Thomas and set his sights on Cornell, pulling alongside the leader, however Cornell was able to maintain his momentum and collected the winner's spoils.

Stangl finished a strong second, Thomas was third, Martin ran a strong race to claim fourth and Baker charged back to take fifth. Completing the top ten were Cory Nelson, Evan Martin, Jay Russell, Lanny Carpenter and T.J. Muths. Russell and Carpenter both advanced from the B-feature.

Heat Races were claimed by Baughman, Martin, Baker and Dover. The four drivers advancing from the B-feature were Tyler Blank, Josh Fisher, Russell and Carpenter.

In the 600cc Micro Sprint feature event, Ayrton Gennetten - owner of a few second place finishes at Double-X - was not to be denied as he led from green to checker to claim the victory in determined fashion.

Another hard charging driver Miles Paulus claimed second, Dean Hathman was third, Travis Arnold ran fourth and Dwayne Benson was fifth. Garret Williamson, Ryan Marsch, Scott Hathman, Kaitlin Boland and Marty Miller completed the top ten. Heat races were won by Gennetten and Kale Mueller.

The very competitive street stock division saw Brandon Dunhampick up his second feature event win of the season. Dunham was chased by Ted Welschmeyer for much of the race until Welschmeyer spun in turn one and then had an incident on the restart which saw him retire to the pit area.

A restart on lap 14 allowed last week's feature winner Cole Henson to take a shot at passing the leader but Dunham had the preferred line and held on for the victory.

Following the lead duo across the line were Dale Berry in third, Steve Beach in fourth and Tim Cressley recovered from an early spin to take fifth. Jeff Offerman was sixth, James Keeran seventh and Zach Smith completed the running cars in eighth. Heat race victories were claimed by Welschmeyer and Dunham.

In the Hobby Stock class, close quarters on the first lap saw pole sitter Kevin Prall and third starting Mike Schrader both received damage to their cars that would render them unable to continue the event. This allowed multi-time winner Gage Wineland to assume the point, a spot he would not relinquish.

Rudy Wirts who started shotgun on the field would race his way to second, Chuck Coffey would take third by a bumper over Tanya Canada in fourth. Jeff Buford would claim fifth and Katie Goodson completed the running order in sixth. Prall would claim the lone heat race.

Next Sunday night is the 2015 season finale at Double-X Speedway. The four primary weekly classes will be in competition with season points champion being crowned at the conclusion of the evening events.
