Parade and fireworks mark California's July 4th

The annual July 4th parade will be sponsored by California Masonic Lodge 183, through the leadership of George Shelley. There is no entry fee. Organizations, churches, schools, businesses and more are invited to show their patriotism by entering a float, or just being in the parade. The theme for this year's parade is "America, Hope of the Future."

Line-up will begin at 9 a.m. on Smith Street in the Cargill area. The parade will start at 10 a.m. along Smith Street; turning right on Oak Street, right on South Street and proceed to the Moniteau County Fairgrounds where the parade participants will disband.

The July 4th Fireworks display, set to begin at Proctor Park at dusk on Saturday, July 4, is courtesy of the City of California. Rain date is Sunday, July 5. The Board of Aldermen approved $6,000 for the display provided by Premier Pyrotechnics, Inc., Richland.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and make this a big 4th of July celebration.
