Mid-Mo Ambulance Board orders new ambulance

A bid for a new ambulance was presented for approval of the Mid-Mo Ambulance Board of Directors at the regular meeting, Wednesday, June 10.

Blake Clifton, American Response Vehicles (ARV), Columbia, presented a quote to the board for a 2015 Chevrolet G-3500 DuraMax Diesel. The bid for the ambulance with some changes to the air conditioning system was approved at $164,876. A bid was presented with a trade-in of Unit 4, a Chevrolet G-3500 DuraMax Diesel, for $155,376, but Board President Earl Reuter and Administrator Lee Kempf recommended the vehicle not be traded in. The ambulance will be delivered in the fall.

Clifton spoke to the board about changes being made in the industry which will affect any ambulance ordered after July 1. It will be required for all new ambulances ordered after July 1 to meet new gurney retention specifications, cabinets which must be weight-rated and several other changes.

To meet these new "certified ambulance standards" the cost of ambulances will increase by $30,000 to $50,000. he presented this information so the board would be aware that any new ambulance purchased after July 1 will cost more than $200,000. Supervisor Ross Lumpkin spoke to the board about the electric-use audit which CoMo had performed at the Barnett base. The written result presented indicating removal of the old heater and adding insulation to the garage helped tremendously. Comparing the all-electric residence to others in the area, usage was below average. The cross-over ducts underneath the house may need to be replaced. This had been recommended to the previous owner, but needs to be checked to see if it was done.

The board approved a bid of $1,800 from Koechner Manufacturing, Tipton, for a canopy to cover the Med Bed on the Gator recently purchased from Versailles Rural Fire Protection District.

Accounts deemed noncollectable were presented to the board for consideration to be written off. The board approved write offs in the amount of $36,179.37.

In other business, the May treasurer's report indicated the balance on hand was $455,840.35. Run statistics were: Tipton - 42 calls with 31 transports; California - 75 calls, 46 transports; Versailles - 164 calls, 109 transports; and Barnett - 41 calls, 30 transports. District wide, there were 322 calls with 216 transports for a transport rate of 74.2 percent on patient contact calls.

The next regular meeting is set for July 8, at the Tipton district office.
