The term "unsettled weather" now has a real meaning for area residents, if it didn't already. No one is interested in a drought, but no one is really interested in quite so much rain, either.

Of course, the Mid-Missouri area has not suffered the rain amounts of Texas and Oklahoma, to mention a couple of states. So, in one respect, Moniteau County residents have little to complain about. That is, unless one happens to be trying to plant crops, harvest hay or even mow a yard.

With a total of more than four inches of "precipitation" so far in the month of June, with lower than normal temperatures at the beginning of the month, followed by temperatures at or greater than 90 degrees, everyone can agree that the weather has been a bit out of the ordinary.

The streams and rivers have risen, interfering with travel and farming. In general, the ground has been so saturated, some trees have simply fallen over, such as one at the City Park near the basketball courts. Another appears to have split, maybe due to the weight of the water on the leaves.

So what do we have to look forward to in the next week? According the forecast, more of the same.

Thursday, mostly sunny in the morning, then partly sunny, high around 90, with 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Toward the evening, more showers and thunderstorms likely, with a rain chance of 70 percent, temperature around 70. Friday, 70 percent chance of rain, high around 80. Friday night, partly cloudy with only a 30 percent chance of rain with temperature dropping to mid-60s.
