The Class 1, District 9 girls tournament was a roller coaster of emotions for the Jamestown basketball team.
After beating St. Elizabeth, 56-45, in the opening round, the Lady Eagles pulled out an exciting 59-57 victory over rival Prairie Home in the semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Jamestown's season came to an end, however, with a 79-42 loss to No. 1-seed Tuscumbia in Friday night's district final.
Against Tuscumbia, Lady Eagles junior Mackenzie Strother finished with 14 points and junior Alli Muri scored 12.
The girls All-District team included Muri, Prairie Home junior Makayla Zey and Prairie Home sophomore Rachel Distler.
In the Class 1, District 9 boys tournament, Jamestown beat St. Elizabeth, 68-56, in the opening round, but lost to Tuscumbia, 51-29, in Thursday's semifinal. Jamestown had three players named to the All-District team: senior Trevor Barbour, junior Wyatt Hunziker and freshman Garrett Wolfe.
Prairie Home had two players named to the All-District team: seniors Rayce Kendrick and Kody Simmons.
Other members of the girls All-District team were: Tuscumbia's Takayla Gunter, Kendra Vaughn and Tempary Gunter; Chamois' Paige Nolte; Pilot Grove's Kerigan Wessing and Melissa Schlotzhauer; and St. Elizabeth's Brooke Struemph.
The boys All-District team also included: Pilot Grove's Mason Schlotzhauer and Jake Leverton; Tuscumbia's Zane Humphreys and Orrie Patterson; and St Elizabeth's Brayden Holtmeyer.
Class 2, District 8 boys tournament
Host Russellville won its opening round game against Tipton, 57-44, but lost to Linn, 50-35, in the semifinals on Thursday night. Iberia and Linn were scheduled to play in the championship final Monday night after Saturday's game was postponed because of bad weather.
