Mid-Mo Ambulance has new medical director

Administrator Lee Kempf informed the Mid-Mo Ambulance Board of Directors, at its Wednesday, March 11, meeting of the selection of a new medical director. The new director, Dr. Alan Wilson, is also medical director for Lake Regional Hospital and Camden County S.W.A.T. He has been a paramedic and Kempf said he seems to be excited to work with the district.

Kempf also informed the board that the entity formerly responsible for setting specifications for ambulances is no longer doing so. There are new entities in charge and changes are anticipated in the future. It appears at this time that changes in the gurneys or stretchers used for ambulance transport will be changed, with a system required to lock the wheels into wells in the ambulance floor. The concern at this time is that the changes to the ambulances to meet the new specifications could cost $15,000 to $40,000 per ambulance.

The heaters in the garage at the Versailles base turned out to be beyond repair. They were checked out after they quit working. Bids will be brought in for replacement at a later date.

The board approved the final draft of the extended medical leave policy, and looked over the proposed leave policy which had revisions due to the Family Medical Leave Act. The leave policy will be presented for approval at the next meeting.

In other business, the February treasurer's report balance on hand was $504,079.47. Run statistics were: Tipton - 41 calls with 26 transports; California - 55 calls, 38 transports; Versailles - 129 calls, 80 transports; and Barnett - 24 calls, 17 transports. District wide, there were 249 calls with 161 transports for a transport rate of 73.2 percent on patient contact calls.

The March meeting was held at the Tipton district office. The next regular meeting is set for April 11, also at the Tipton district office.
