An older home in California at the corner of South Oak Street and Kelly Street is currently a work in progress. A new metal roof is being installed over the older shingle roof. This new roof will extend the life of the roof, and of the home, many times over and will improve the appearance of the house and the neighborhood.

The other major improvement being made to the home of Lisa Dearixon is more than just a remodeling effort. The original porch on the front of the house had deteriorated to the point that it needed to be completely rebuilt. New wood is replacing the old in what, when completed, will look very much like the old porch. The new porch should be very strong and good for many years of use.

Although some think of progress in a city as being new buildings, new homes and new facilities, upkeep and general improvements to older homes and buildings contribute about as much to the overall appearance of a city as something brand new.

The Dearixon residence is only one of several homes along South Oak Street south of the traffic light which are either in the process of remodeling and restoration or have already been completed. This work on the residences goes along well with the new sidewalk which runs on the west side of the street. Sewer and water line upgrades are also being done on Kelly and Locust, with new natural gas lines on Kelly Street. Overlays will follow when the street work is completed.

Progress is often made one house, one porch or one street at a time.
