Phil Lewis recognized by Lt. Governor Peter Kinder

Jason Witt, Chamber President, shared he attended the luncheon given by Lt. Governor Peter Kinder to honor Missouri Seniors and recognize them for their volunteer work. Phil Lewis was nominated by the California Area Chamber of Commerce and was one of the 25 winners recognized by Lt. Governor Kinder. Witt stated this was an awesome experience with people traveling from all over the state of Missouri. Witt also stated that Lewis was very humbled by the nomination and support.

The California Police Department shared Business Watch flyers for all the businesses in California.

Witt shared the Board's Executive Committee hope to have a decision on the replacement for the executive secretary soon.

Dwight Sanders, golf tournament committee, shared the team slots are filling up and encouraged all who plan to have a team in the tournament to please contact him or a team member as soon as possible. The tournament is slated for June 10. Team members include Jenny Brown, Brad Baer and Shelly Hampton. Sanders stated the need for additional help at 9:30 a.m. when everything gets started and for more golf carts. Lunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. with first golfers out at 11 a.m. Businesses or individuals can still be hole sponsors at $50/hole.

Brad Baer reported the Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival plans are going well. He stated the bid for trophies and plaques was given to B-W Graphics. The Knights of Columbus are unable to sponsor bingo and if another organization would like to do this they should contact Baer. Hawthorn Bank is sponsoring the Diaper Derby this year. Portable toilet bids went to Job-Site. Advertising is still in the works with the fire department helping out to promote the Tuff Truck/Figure 8 competition. The next meeting will be June 1, at 5:30 p.m., in city hall meeting room.

For the Scholarship Committe, Becky Lawson, reported they had received several applications for the 2015/2016 school year. The committee awarded six scholarships to the following students Eli Freeman, Rylee Glenn, Haley Goans, Jacob Hoellering, Garrett Imhoff, and Matthew Oerly. These students will receive $375 for the Fall 2015 semester and $375 for the Spring 2016 semester. Superintendent Dwight Sanders noted that the district very much appreciates the Chamber's support in offering these scholarships.

Witt reported for the Sign Committee that the City Council amended its budget to build the "Welcome to California" sign at the intersections of Highway 50 and Highway 87. The Chamber will support this construction with a donation of $30,000.

The next Board meeting will be held June 11, at 8 a.m., in the City Hall meeting room.
