Moniteau County Retired Teachers Association

President Dave Jungmeyer introduced Jack Bowlin, the speaker for the evening, who gave a history of the funeral business in Moniteau County. Bowlin recounted the connection between furniture businesses and the undertaking profession and told of his family's history in the funeral service as well as the history of other funeral homes in the county.

Membership chairman Beth Jungmeyer reported on the Region 7 meeting held Friday, April 24 in Rolla. She attended the meeting along with Nancy and Phil Lewis and Susan Borts. The local group provided two door prizes. She also reminded members to keep track of their volunteer hours and that dues are $10.

Members voted to donate $50 to the Moniteau County Back to School program if the treasury has that amount available and decided to individually contribute to the Buddy Pack program. Checks for the Buddy Pack program may be left with Beth Jungmeyer, Susan Borts or with Nancy Lewis at the library in California.

Beth also informed the group she had assembled and distributed goodie bags for 16 county retirees, one each at Jamestown and High Point, two in Latham, four at Tipton and eight in California.

The president announced the executive committee would hold a summer retreat to plan the 2016-17 year. He polled those present for their input on the meeting time and day. The consensus was to retain the current time and day.

Refreshments were served at the beginning of the meeting. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 15.
