Saturday, Nov. 7, was a special event hosted by the Bookworm Sewing and Quilting Group of Moniteau Library at the Moniteau County Nutrition Center. There were 22 quilts presented to honor those from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The quilters group, which has joined in the efforts of the Quilts of Valor Foundation in its mission to honor veterans, meets on Tuesdays in the upstairs of Wood Place Public Library.

The event began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a reading by Trisha Boyle of "Freedom Isn't Free."

Following the presentation of the quilts, Carol Woehrer presented the story behind the song "God Bless America." The Baysinger family presented the original rendition of "God Bless America" with all the verses. Singing was led by Pam Liebi.

The event closed with thanks and a few words by Judy Scott.

Bookworm Quilters are: Judy Boyle, Pam Liebi, Darlene Matthews, Judy Scott and Kathy Shoemaker.
