Two local pre-school and child care facilities received a visit from California Fire Chief Allen Smith and a fire engine on Monday, Oct. 5.

The fire fighter visit to "Lil Tots" pre-school and child care, operated by Lisa Chesser, and "Kid's World", operated by Cathy Wagner, invited the City of California Fire Department to send a firefighter to speak to the children about what firefighters do and show them a fire engine in a non-threatening environment.

Fire Chief Smith visited both of the locations, one on Pamela Drive and the other on Lexie Lane. He spoke briefly to the young people and invited them to climb in the back seat of the big fire engine. He then distributed fire hats and coloring books to the young people and gave the children's firefighter badges. As the youngsters checked out the fire engine, Smith turned on the flashing lights.

Several of the young people at both "Lil Tots" and "Kid's World" lined up to have their photo taken with the fire engine and the fire chief.
