Jamestown fifth grade teacher Wendy Barker could not take her students to all the biomes in the world so she brought as many as possible to the Jamestown school via books, encyclopedias and the internet. After learning about them her students shared knowledge through a visual board and presentation to other classes.

During her life science class Barker taught students that a biome is a large community of plants and animals that occupies a distinct region. Terrestrial biomes typically defined by their climate and dominant vegetation, include grassland, tundra, desert, tropical reinforces and deciduous and coniferous forests.

Students were divided according to interest and given about two weeks to complete a detailed presentation, to include drawings, climate gauges, photos and other means to explain the biome.

The students presented their projects to the fourth grade class at Jamestown as well as superintendent Ellen Ash.

Barker shared, "The students had a great time learning and exploring biomes. We learned a lot but had a great time doing it."
