Jamestown 8, Eugene 4

Jamestown earned its first win of the Fall last Monday, with the help of three first innings runs and five in the fifth.

The Eagles led 3-0 after the opening frame, and 3-1 entering the fifth. After Eugene tied the game at 3 in the top of the fifth, Jamestown scored five runs to take an 8-3 lead.

Colton DeVore led off the inning with a walk, then Cole Theissen singled to first and Andrew Maslen bunt-singled to load the bases. An Ben Gerlach walked scored the first run, then Austin Flippin hit a grand slam over the left field fence.

Maslen led the team with three hits, batting 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI, a double and two singles. Flippin was 2-for-5 with a single and the grand slam.

DeVore started on the bump for the Eagles, pitching six innings, giving up four runs on three hits, while striking out nine. Flippin pitched the seventh inning, recording two strike outs.

Jamestown 5, Sturgeon 14

Despite a three-hit performance from Austin Flippin, and two from Wyatt Hunziker, the Eagles dropped their second game of the Fall last Tuesday.

Sturgeon held a 2-1 advantage heading into the third inning, then scored six runs to open up the lead to 8-1. Jamestown was about to cut the lead to 8-3 in its half of the inning, but Sturgeon added two more runs in the fifth and four in the seventh, while the Eagles scored just once in the fifth and once in the sixth.

The two teams combined for 13 errors, six by Sturgeon and seven by Jamestown.

Flippin was 3-for-4 from the plate, with two doubles, a single and three runs scored, and Hunziker was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Garrett Wolfe, Nick Perez and Colton DeVore each had a hit in the contest.

Russellville 14, Tuscumbia 1

Cole Dawson and Seth Kuda paced the Indians' offense, en route to an easy win. Dawson was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kuda was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Chandler Miller and Cole Freeman each had two RBI a piece, and Tyler Voss and Curtis Keller had an RBI.

Voss started on the bump for Russellville, pitching three innings, allowing three hits and one run. Keller pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit the rest of the game.

Jamestown 3, Russellville 0

Behind Garrett Wolfe's pitching performance, Jamestown shutout Russellville Thursday 3-0.

Wolfe pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out 16 of the 28 batters he faced.

Wolfe doubled in the first inning to score Flippin for the first run in of the game, and Austin Maslen doubled in another run in the fourth. Flippin scored the third and final run in the fifth inning off a Russellville error.

Flippin had another multi-hit game, this time going 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored. Wolfe and Maslen had an RBI a piece, each batting 1-for-2 with a double.

Russellville's Isaac Kirchner started on the hill for the Indians, pitching four innings, allowing two runs on fours. Adam Kennedy and Austin Roe each pitched an inning of relief in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Cole Freeman led the offense, batting 2-for-3 from the plate.

The Russellville junior varsity beat Jamestown's JV 7-4 in four innings. Nick Thompson pitched the first two innings, allowing one run on one hit, an Dalyn Hegerfeld went 1-for-2 from the plate with two RBI. Chandler Miller was also 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases.

Jamestown will travel to Pilot Grove Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. for its next game.

Russellville will host New Franklin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
