Jamestown and High Point celebrate Labor Day weekend

Moniteau County will celebrate the Labor Day weekend with events in the cities of Jamestown and High Point signaling the beginning of the end of summer.

Jamestown will celebrate its 53rd annual event, with celebration of the four-day Labor Day weekend signaling the beginning of the end of summer.

The Jamestown event begins with the co-ed softball tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday evening, Sept. 3, with the final games on Monday, Sept. 7, sponsored by the Lions Club. This year, there will be both co-ed and men's tournaments.

A children's barrel train will run throughout the event.

The beer garden is also open Friday through Monday. There will be college football on television in the beer tent.

A four-wheeler rodeo is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night.

On Saturday, the ninth annual Car and Bike Show will be held at the community building parking lot. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Judging will be at noon, awards presented at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, Jamestown FFA will serve breakfast at the Community Building from 8:30 to 10 a.m. At 10 a.m., there will be a Community Worship Service. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. there will be Horseshoe Tournaments. A Washer Tournament begins at 7 p.m.

This year, the craft show will span two days, Sunday and Monday.

Monday events include bingo and children's games. The "all you can eat barbecue" is from from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. New this year is a Kiddie Pedal Pull at 11 a.m. Monday. Traditional children's games begin at 1 p.m.

The swimming pool will be open for its last weekend of the year.

The 23rd annual High Point Homecoming this Labor Day weekend marks the 62nd anniversary of the High Point School.

The event begins Saturday, Sept. 5, with the two-mile walk /run at 7:30 a.m, baby show at 10 a.m. and parade at 11 a.m. (lineup at 10). The California Community Ensemble and High Point School Band will both take part in the parade which begins at the High Point School and goes through town.

A variety of activities will take place following the parade. There is an art show from noon to 3 p.m.; a quilt show from noon to 3:30 p.m.; entertainment on stage by Helen Russell and Company from noon to 3 p.m.; bingo with prizes from 12:30 to 3 p.m.; and a barbecue beef and pork dinner from noon to 5:30 p.m. The Lucy Papen Scholarship Auction begins at 3:30 p.m.

Other events include an antique car and tractor display beginning at 1 p.m.; a kids bicycle rodeo also beginning at 1 p.m.; a softball game beginning about 2 p.m.; the Lucy Papen Scholarship Auction begins at 3:30 p.m.; face painting and balloon animals by Phil and Regina Wyrick.

Community worship services begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at the High Point School. The speaker will be Pastor Glen Golden of High Point Baptist Church.

The Nightlight Youth Kickball Tournament begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
