A call early Tuesday, Sept. 8, to the California Police Department resulted in no new information regarding an officer-involved shooting incident on Friday, Sept. 4, in California.

The incident took place about 1 a.m. in the 600 block of South Taylor Avenue in California. All calls were then referred to the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control. According to a patrol spokesman, the event began when California Police officers went to a residence to take a subject into custody on outstanding warrants.

When the subject came out of the residence with what was believed to be an assault rifle, he was fired on by a law enforcement officer, and after sustaining non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, the subject fell in a neighboring yard.

The subject was transported to University Hospital for treatment. At this time, no charges have been reported filed on the unidentified suspect on this incident. He is under guard at the hospital.

Several neighbors, who did not wish to be identified, said the first they knew of the incident was about 3 a.m. when the flashing red and blue lights from the vehicles blocking the Taylor Avenue - Cole Street intersection awoke them. The police vehicles and the yellow crime scene tape were gone by 8 a.m.

According to the Highway Patrol, analysis of the police car camera and police officer body cam videos is ongoing at this time. The department equipped its vehicles with cameras and the officers with body cams at least a year ago.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation has been completed.
