Jamestown Labor Day is five-day event

The Labor Day event at Jamestown began with softball on Thursday, Sept. 3, and ended with kid's games on Monday, Sept. 7. The weekend, which signals the beginning of the end of summer, drew a large crowd for the many events.

The events at the Jamestown Lions Club Park included co-ed and men's softball tournaments, a four-wheeler rodeo, a pedal tractor pull event, beer garden with live sports television, car show which drew 70 entries, Sunday morning breakfast served by FFA, Community Worship Service, horseshoe tournament, washer tournament, two-day craft show which included about everything craftypeople can think of, a 4-H facepainting booth, a variety of kids' games, bingo with prizes, plenty of snack type food and burgers, and the very popular "all you can eat" barbecue dinner on Monday. In addition, the swimming pool was open for the last days of the summer.

According to members of the Jamestown Lions Club, which sponsors the event, the weekend went well. There were two different groups of softball teams - one co-ed and the other a men's tournament which ran most of the weekend. The eight-team elimination tournament began Saturday at 11 a.m. The 12-team elimination tournament began at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Although the weather was hot and muggy for most of the weekend, it was a little cooler on Monday. The canopies came out as it began sprinkling on Monday morning, but the light rainfall did little to interfere with any activities.
