Two seriously injured on Highway 50

At approximately 2:40 Tuesday, Sept. 15 a one-car accident took place approximately five miles outside of California going towards Tipton. Traffic was detained in both directions on Highway 50 for approximately 35 minutes.

Caleb T. Sewell, 23, of Tipton, was driving a 1999 Mazda 626 and failed to negotiate a curve and went off the left side of the roadway and over turned. It was unknown if Sewell was wearing a safety device. He was transported to the University of Missouri by the Staff for Life with serious injuries.

A passenger in his car, Amber L. Spencer-Kiral, 19, of Tuscumbia, was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident according to the Highway Patrol report. She was transported to Capital Region Hospital with serious injuries.
