California shuts out Hallsville 28-0

CALIFORNIA, Mo. - The California Pintos extend their winning streak to three games Friday, defeating Hallsville 28-0 at Riley Field.

California (3-2, 3-0 Tri-County Conference) got on the board three minutes into the first quarter after senior Josh Woodruff intercepted a pass and returned it to the Indians' 35-yard line. A third-and-7 pass from sophomore Jacob Wolken to senior Landon Mouse for 17 yards set up Woodruff's 4-yard touchdown run. After a trick 2-point conversion play, the Pintos held the 8-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Wolken and Woodruff needed just one play to find paydirt. Wolken found Woodruff on an out route to the left side, then Woodruff broke three would-be tackles as he sprinted down the sideline for the 84-yard score that gave California a 15-0 lead.

The Pintos extended their lead midway through the third quarter off a Wolken-to-Kyle Hofstetter 58-yard connection. Hofstetter beat his man down the right side and was wide-open to give California the 21-0 lead.

Late in the fourth, Woodruff wasn't done making highlights on offense. On a third-and-8 from the Hallsville 18-yard line, Woodruff received a pitch to left side but fumbled the ball. Once he regained control, he was met by a Hallsville tackler. After escaping, he switched fields to right side and gained 16 yards to the 2-yard line.

Gunner Baquet punched it in on the next play to put the game away, 28-0.

The Pintos will host Southern Boone at 7 p.m. Friday for their homecoming, and Hallsville (3-2, 1-2) will travel to Warsaw.
