Glenn, Gump dominate on defense

Senior Brandan Gump and Sophomore Liam Glenn led the Pintos defense to their second shutout of the season, recording 12 and 10 tackles, respectively, and Gump also had a sack.

This came a week after Gump totaled 18 tackles, one tackle of a loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Albertson called Gump's performance against Eldon "the best game of his career".

"Liam Glenn, we thought last week maybe got rolled by somebody early and was a little bit hesitant for the rest of that game," Albertson said. "This week, we challenged him and I thought he stepped up and really did a good job."

Friday night's game against Hallsville was Glenn's best game of the season. He hasn't had more than four tackles in a game prior. He had four tackles in Friday night's first quarter alone.

Also in the first quarter, Glenn stopped Hallsville's quarterback Grahman Moser on fourth down to force the Indians to turn the ball over on downs. He also had a stop on third down in the fourth quarter.

The Indians ended up going for it on a fourth-and-one, only to turn it over again on downs after Hunter Heimericks made the stop at the line of scrimmage. Heimericks had nine tackles and one for a loss.

Sophomore Jacob Adams was next on the team with eight tackles and one for a loss, and senior Landon Mouse had seven tackles and two great pass breakups while in coverage.

Even after allowing 345 yards and 35 points to Mexico, California has the best scoring defense in the Tri-County Conference. The Pintos' defense is giving up 13.4 points per game, with two shutouts this season. The second-best scoring defense is Osage, giving up 17.8 points per game.
