Candidates filed for state offices go to Aug. 2 primary

Candidates running for the five statewide offices of governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general; one U.S. Senate seat; all eight of Missouri's U.S. House of Representatives seats; 17 odd-numbered state Senate districts; 163 state House of Representatives seats; and various circuit judges were required to file with the Secretary of State's Office by today. Any candidate filing for a county office filed with his/her local county clerk or election board.

Currently, there are 197 Democratic candidates, 255 Republican candidates, 36 Libertarian candidates and three Constitution Party candidates filed with the Secretary of State's Office.

Candidates who filed on the first day, Feb. 23, drew a random number to determine the order in which their names will appear on the primary ballot. Candidates who filed after the first day are placed on the ballot in the order they filed.

Missouri's primary election is Aug. 2. The deadline for voter registration for the August primary is July 6. The general election is Nov. 8, and the voter registration deadline for that election is Oct. 12.
