Final Leon Deraps Memorial walk/run scheduled May 7

JAMESTOWN, Mo. -- The final Leon Deraps Memorial Scholarship Fund Walk/Run will take place May 7.

This year will be eighth annual 5-mile walk/run/ride and will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Leon Deraps’ death while on duty in Iraq.

The walk will begin at Advanced Chimney, located at 365 W. Row in Jamestown, and will end at Assumption Catholic Church in Cedron. Though registration is encouraged before April 15, participants will be able to register on the day of the event for $30. All proceeds benefit the L.Cpl Leon Deraps Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Sign-in will be held from 8-8:45 a.m. May 7 at Advanced Chimney, and the event will begin at 9 a.m. Participants must register before April 15 to receive this year’s T-shirt.

“This year I really encourage people to come out because it is the last one,” said Sandy Deraps, Leon’s mother. “It is a very good cause to be helping the seniors of Jamestown High School with scholarships.”
