Every California golfer was just a couple strokes back from his Osage counterpart, and that added up to a 175-182 loss Monday evening at California Country Club.

Osage’s Jacob Krantz carded a 40 for medalist honors. Dylan Kramel led the way for the Pintos with a 42, and Liam Schatzer was not far behind with a 43. On the JV side, the Pintos weren’t quite as close to the Indians, as they dropped their match 184-234.

”The boys don’t play all winter, so they show a lot of improvement because they haven’t been playing,” said coach Doug Miller. “I think we’re right on track. They’re getting better every week, and we’re getting some kids eligible. Team-wise we’re doing better. We have a couple kids struggling right now, but I think they’ll get it worked out.”

Still relatively early in the golf season and boasting multiple golfers who could make a run to the state meet, California looks to be right in the thick of wide open year in the Tri-County Conference.

“I try to tell these guys ‘every shot counts,’” Miller said. “No team around here is really dominant; we’re about all the same. You always want to go out and try to shoot your best round and try to shoot a PR every time.”
